The Big Problems
Do I Have A Broken Line?
Everyone assumes the worst, that the pool leaking indefinitely leads to costly repairs due to broken underground pipes. Many companies would like you to believe this as well. These jobs are the minority. About 1 in 5 leak jobs is actually a broken line or other major issue. But it's not always the end of the world
Some pipes are superfluous. For example, if you have a pool service that cleans your pool, you don't need that broken vacuum line mended. Some companies won't tell you that it can simply be plugged off! Simlilarly, if you have an auto-vac running around the bottom of your pool, we can just plug off that broken main drain line! We will go over options
If it is a necessary line, like a skimmer or return, we can make necessary repairs without tearing up your whole deck. My sensitive equipment can pinpoint the break within a few inches in most cases. And I rarely open up a hole more than 2' square. If it is a paver deck, It will look like I was never there. If it is a concrete deck, we can texture and all you'll have to do is paint!
Experience is key doing these major repairs, and experience I have! I have performed THOUSANDS of these repairs, personally, and my prices are very competitive.
Cracked fittings
Many times, a wall fitting cracks. These can be temporarily repaired with epoxy that CURES UNDER WATER. No draining and drilling necessary. And many of these fittings can be permanently repaired WITHOUT DIGGING. I can core drill the fitting from the wall and plumb a new fitting with a new mud seal. Dont be fooled by competitors into doing more work than is necessary. and looks like we were never there!
Skimmers
Skimmers are the largest fitting in most pools and inevitably need to be replaced. They get old and brittle, because they are made out of ABS plastics, not PVC like most pipes. Also, they are tied to the shell of the pool as well as to the decking, which settles if not properly compacted.
Skimmers can always be sealed with underwater epoxy, or sealed and strengthened with fiberglass, but if it is more than 30 years old, or there has been significant settling, a new skimmer is in order when it cracks. I have replaced over 800 skimmers myself, and take pride in doing it right, and making as little cosmetic damage as possible.
Structural Cracks
As far as leaks go, structural cracking is the last thing you want. If left unchecked, they just get worse, and more costly to repair. The good news is that these types of repairs account for 5% of jobs.
I have performed hundreds of crack repairs. I use patented structural steel staples specifically designed for gunite and shotcrete swimming pools. The crack is also injected with a special urethane foam injection, also specifically designed for swimming pools. Depending on the condition of your plaster, I can get an approximate match so you dont end up spending thousands resurfacing your pool afterwards.
